CORONADO HISTORIC DISTRICT OVERLAY EXPANSION
PUSHED BACK 2 YEARS

UPDATE 2/12/2008

Due to budget cuts City wide in all departments, the Historic Preservation office has been forced to push back (stretch out) the time line for their projects and commitments for the future. Cuts in staff and hiring freezes have caused this. We have been assured that we still retained the same position in line and as you can see form the letter from Kevin Weight below this could be moved forward should the situation improve.

I asked about outside funding sources and or volunteer work and was informed that this portion of the process should be done by the office itself to retain the best quality report and the best chance of success in the expansion. I will keep all current and or future interested parties informed as I am informed by the City of Phoenix Historic Preservation Office.

LETTER FROM HISTORIC PRESERVATION OFFICE:

Wayne,

The revised Historic Property Survey & Designation plan is attached.  The Coronado Survey got pushed back 2 years, to FY 2009-2010.  At this point, I'm not sure if it will happen near the beginning of that fiscal year (Fall 2009) or near the end of the fiscal year (Spring 2010).  We'll know more as we get closer.

Keep in mind that if the current hiring freeze is lifted and we are able to add more staff, we will revisit the plan and accelerate the time frame.

SURVEY AND DESIGNATION PLAN REVISED JANUARY 2008

Thanks,

Kevin Weight
