Expansion Coronado Historic District Project

THE PROJECT
The Coronado Neighborhood is a large neighborhood MAP. Within that neighborhood are three presently designated Historic Districts. It is the Coronado Historic district that is considering expansion. The district was formed in the mid 80's and expanded once in 2000. There are presently more homes that are now historically eligible, and residents believe that there are numerous other homes in the area that are contributors to the historic character of the neighborhood.

In this process, the the Historic Preservation Department of Phoenix, (HP), makes a recomendation to the Historic Preservation Commission to fund a survey and make designation recommendations as to new expanded boundaries. This link can provide you a better understanding as to how the process would move forward and who is involved. Pierson Place Survey conducted by the HP Department in January 2005 can give you an idea as to what the survey actually is; this link is a good way to better educate yourself as to the City process. Early this fall the HP Department will then forward their recomendation to the City Council for approval. Keep in mind this recomendation would be for funding for the survey and designation, not the actual survey or designation itself. If approved this is an 18 month process before all the final recommendations are made and designation approved. There will be plenty of opportunity to work with the HP Department during the survey and also provide input and neighborhood recommendations before the final presentation to the City Council.
